Five Women’s Soccer players named All-Ohio by Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association

ADA — Two seniors, two juniors and one sophomore from the Women's Soccer squad were named 2011 NCAA Division III All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

First Team selections included senior defender Chelsea Chadwick, junior midfielder Tara Tokar and sophomore forward Sami Atkinson.

A Second Team nod went to junior goalie Erin Waehner, while senior midfielder Alyssa Merrick was a Third Team selection.

Chadwick started in all of her 20 game appearances this season at defender and also recorded a goal and an assist. Her efforts this year earned her OAC Defender of the Year and NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region laurels.

Tokar started in all 21 games for the Polar Bears this past season and recorded three goals and two assists for eight points, ranking sixth on the team in offense.

She earned NSCAA All-America and First Team All-Great Lakes Region honors, as well as First Team All-Conference and Academic All-OAC awards.

Atkinson finished the season leading the team and the conference with 30 points on 12 goals and six assists in her 20 game appearances. In addition to her OAC Player of the Week and First Team awards, Atkinson was also named All-Great Lakes Region by NSCAA, Academic All-OAC and Second Team Academic All-District 7 by CoSIDA.

Waehner started in all 21 games at keeper this season, recording eight shutouts, 65 saves and a 0.72 goals-against average. She earned her second career All-OAC Honorable Mention award at the end of this season.

Merrick led the team with 13 assists, and coupled with her seven goals, finished third on the team in offense with 27 points. She earned her share of accolades this season, including First Team All-OAC, Second Team Academic All-District 7 by CoSIDA and Academic All-OAC.

Northern finished the season 16-3-2 overall and 9-0 in the OAC to earn the Regular Season title. The Polar Bears also hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament and notched its first national postseason win in the opening round.
