Women's Soccer head coach Mark Batman named Regional Coach of the Year by NSCAA
ADA — After leading the Women's Soccer program to another historic finish this season, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has named head coach Mark Batman the 2011 NSCAA/Mondo Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year.
"I'm very honored to receive this award, as I believe it is a great reflection of our entire coaching staff, Jenny Vincent and Dave Knapp," Batman said.
"This is also a fantastic award for our team. To me, all the individual awards are reflections of our entire team. We can't do anything without each other."
Batman guided the Polar Bears to a 16-3-2 overall record, including a 9-0 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the 2011 Regular Season title. Northern also set a new program record with 16 wins and a 15-game unbeaten streak.
The team has made six-straight appearances in the OAC Tournament and seven overall under Batman's tutelage, and has earned two regular season championships.
Additionally this season, Northern made its second-ever appearance and notched its first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament.
Batman recorded his 100th win as head coach in October against Baldwin-Wallace and is the program's winningest coach with a 105-42-13 overall record.
A total of eight coaches at NCAA Division III institutions have been recognized by their peers as Regional Coaches of the Year. They, along with those coaches whose teams advanced to the NCAA semifinals, move on to the ballot for the National Coach of the Year award.
The recipient of the national honor will be announced at the NSCAA National Convention on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.
