WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The 13th-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team finished in fourth place at the Lycoming (Pa.) Duals after dropping matches to No. 8 Wisconsin-Eau Claire and No. 21 Ithaca (N.Y.) in the event's championship bracket on Saturday afternoon at Lamade Gymnasium.

No. 2-ranked sophomore All-American Jacob Reed (Lancaster) led ONU, going 2-0 on the day with a pin and a major decision at 141 pounds to improve to 5-0 over the two-day event.

No.-10 ranked senior Chase Sumner (Ada) was 3-0 on Friday and added a major decision in Saturday's semifinals at 149 pounds.

The Polar Bears (16-2 overall) went 3-0 to win their group in the opening portion of the event on Friday and advanced to Saturday's four-team championship bracket. Northern fell 32-16 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the semifinals and 27-14 to Ithaca in the third-place match.

Trailing 11-0 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the Polar Bears answered with a pin from Reed and a 10-0 major decision from Sumner (Ada) to get back within one, 11-10.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored the next 21 points before forfeiting at 285.

Ithaca opened the consolation match by building an 18-4 lead. Reed scored Northern's four points via a 10-0 major decision at 141.

The Polar Bears scored the next 10 points, as senior Jordan Hardrick (Dayton/Wayne) and sophomore Adam Myers (Springfield/Shawnee) earned victories via decisions of 5-3 and 7-2, respectively. Sophomore Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) added an 11-3 major decision to help ONU get back within four, 18-14.

But Ithaca closed out the victory with a pin at 197 and a decision at 285 to score the final nine points.

Reed closed the week at 31-0 on the season, and Sumer improved to 28-2 overall for ONU.

The Polar Bears return to action on Tuesday for a home dual against Ohio Athletic Conference foe Mount Union at 7 p.m.
