Thompson, DePrest post pins to rally Wrestling past Heidelberg, 24-15 in OAC opener

ADA — Senior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) and junior Ben DePrest (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) had pins at the 197 and 285 weight classes to rally Ohio Northern to a 24-15 victory over Heidelberg in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Student Princes fall to 0-1, 0-1.

Trailing 15-12, Thompson gave ONU an 18-15 lead with a first period fall at 197.

With the match on the line, DePrest got a second period fall to seal the victory for the Polar Bears.

Freshman Dylan Le (Powell/Dublin Scioto) got ONU on the board with a 9-6 decision at 133 to tie the match at 3-all early.

Freshman Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) improved to 8-0 on the season with a first period pin at 141 pounds to give Ohio Northern a 9-3 lead.

After HU tied the match at 9-9, senior Jordan Hardrick (Dayton/Wayne) had a 7-3 decision at 165 to put ONU on top 12-9.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at the Olivet (Mich.) Duals.
