Andrews, Thompson lead Wrestling on Day 1 of Pete Willson-Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. — Senior Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) and junior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) reached the semifinals in their respective weight classes to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team on the first day of the Pete Willson-Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational on Friday at King Arena.
Andrews went 3-0 at 141 pounds and Thompson was 2-0 at 197 pounds for the Polar Bears. Both men have clinched a top-6 placing and entered the tournament seeded fourth in their weight classes.
Two other ONU wrestlers are alive in the consolation bracket and have clinched a top-8 finish.
Sixth-seeded freshman Chase Sumner (Ada) is 2-1 at 149 and eighth-seeded sophomore Jordan Hardrick (Huber Heights/Wayne) is 3-1 at 165.
The final day of the tournament will get underway on Saturday at 11 am (EST).
