BEREA — Freshmen Shaun Wagner (Southington, Conn.) and Jordan Hardrick (Huber Heights/Wayne) and junior Brandon Bartlome (Sheffield Village/Lorain) each placed among the top-eight in their respective weight classes, propelling Ohio Northern to a seventh-place finish at the Baldwin Wallace John Summa Invitational on Saturday.
The Polar Bears scored 55 total points inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse to end seventh in the 15-team field. Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) claimed the team title with 213 points, Wabash (Ind.) finished second with 185.5 points, and Brockport State (N.Y.) took third with 109 points.
Wagner led the individual performances with a second-place effort in the 157-pound weight class after finishing 3-1 on the day. The first-year grappler recorded a pin in the opening round and back-to-back decisions before falling in the championship match via fall to Wheeling Jesuit's Dylan Taylor.
Meanwhile, Hardrick and Bartlome each compiled four wins on Saturday, leading to third- and eighth-place results, respectively.
Hardrick started the day with victories via injury default, decision, and a major decision at 165 before falling into the consolation bracket with a fourth-round loss. However, he would rebound for a 4-3 victory over Wabash's Daylan Schurg, who wrestled down a weight class for Saturday's event.
Bartlome went 4-2 at 141 to wind up eighth overall, rebounding from a first-round fall to top-seeded Jared Donahue (Wheeling Jesuit). The junior would win his next four bouts, which included a major decision, to ensure his placement among the top-eight.
Sophomore 149-pounder Jevyn Pratt (Carey), senior 157-pounder Dylan Dolph (Canton/South), freshman 174-pounder Connor Kwiat (Bloomville/Tiffin Calvert), and sophomore heavyweight Austin Keeley (Marysville, Mich.) all registered two wins each this weekend.
The Polar Bears are slated to return to Berea next Friday evening for a 7:30 p.m. dual against the No. 5-ranked Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.
