Women's Lacrosse wraps up record-setting season with 18-9 OAC Tournament quarterfinal loss at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team bowed out of the 2024 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament in the quarterfinals with an 18-9 loss at Otterbein on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (9-8 overall), Otterbein (10-5 overall).

The Game
- Sophomore Elena Martin (Youngstown/Canfield) had a 3-goal hat trick to lead the ONU offense.
- Otterbein started quickly, scoring four goals in the first 4:18 of the contest before sophomore Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) found the net at the 9:18 mark to make it 4-1.
- Otterbein would score the next four goals before Hoersten scored another goal at the 12:21 mark of the second quarter to trim the deficit to 8-2.
- The Cardinals scored five of the last six goals to leads 13-4 at halftime.
- The Polar Bears kept battling, outscoring the hosts 4-2 in the fourth quarter.
- Carli Rigel led Otterbein with five goals and four assists for nine points.
- OU out-shot ONU 29-14.

- Ohio Northern set a school record with nine victories this season and posted its first full winning season with its 9-8 mark.
- ONU clinched its fourth consecutive OAC Tournament appearance this season.
- The Polar Bears were the No. 6 seed and Otterbein was the No. 3 seed.
- Northern also broke the school's single-season scoring record with 238 goals.
- Junior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) finished with a school single-season record 35 assists to go with 54 points.
- Burden is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 158 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 93 assists and is seventh with 65 career goals.
- Fifth-year senior Elizabeth Graham (Dayton/Carroll) led the team with 46 goals and sophomore Rylie Kocik (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the team with 57 points on 38 goals and 19 assists.
- Senior Chloe Millican (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) is ONU's all-time career wins leader with 20.
- Ohio Northern scored 10 or more goals in 14 of its 17 games this season.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her first season at Ohio Northern and has a 9-8 record, a winning percentage of .529.
