Kocik, Burden lead Women's Lacrosse to 22-10 victory at Muskingum

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team got their first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season 22-10 at Muskingum on a warm Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (7-6 overall, 1-3 OAC), Muskingum (7-5 overall, 0-3 OAC)
- Venue: Henry D. Bullock Health and Wellness Complex (BHWC) - New Concord, Ohio.
The Game
- Sophomore Rylie Kocik (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had a team-high eight points on seven goals and one assist, junior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) also had eight points on a team-high five assists and three goals, sophomore Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) had four goals, and fifth-year senior Elizabeth Graham (Dayton/Carroll) added a 3-goal hat trick to lead a balanced ONU offensive attack.
- Northern started fast, scoring four times in the first 3:47, to grab a quick 4-0 lead.
- Muskingum scored four of the next six goals to cut the lead to two at the end of the first period, 6-4.
- The Muskies started off the second period with two goals to tie the game at 6-6.
- Ohio Northern responded with five consecutive goals to lead 11-6 at intermission.
- The Polar Bears went on a 6-0 run to end the third quarter, leading 19-7 going into the fourth.
- Both teams scored three more times in the fourth quarter to end the game at 22-10.
- Muskingum was led by MJ Rupp with four goals and one assist.
- ONU had 50 shots while MU only had 14, and the Polar Bears forced 22 turnovers while committing 21.
Notables
- Junior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) is now first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 146 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 88 assists and is eighth with 58 career goals.
- Graham leads the team with 34 goals and Kocik leads the team with 50 points on 32 goals and 17 assists.
- Burden has a team-best 31 assists to go with 43 points.
- Senior Chloe Millican (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) is ONU's all-time career wins leader with 18.
- Ohio Northern has now scored 10 or more goals in 12 of its 13 games this season.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her first season at Ohio Northern and has a 7-6 record, a winning percentage of .539.
