KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team rallied from a 10-5 deficit, but fell just short in a 11-10 loss at Kalamazoo (Mich.) in the season opener on Sunday at Angell Field.
The Polar Bears (0-1 overall) got four goals from sophomore Sydney Kilgore (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami), two of which came in the fourth quarter.
Trailing 10-5 late in the third quarter, sophomore Elizabeth Graham (Riverside/Carroll) scored twice to get ONU within 10-7 entering the fourth period.
A team goal with 9:49 left got Ohio Northern within 10-8 and Kilgore's 10th career hat trick goal made it 10-9 with 6:17 left.
KC (1-0) scored with 4:20 left to extend the lead to 11-9, but Kilgore scored off an assist from Graham to make it 11-10 with 2:52 remaining.
Northern had two possessions in the final minutes with a chance to tie, but the Hornet defense would hold and the hosts would escape with the win.
KC outshot ONU 25-16.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday at Adrian (Mich.)
