Lenser joins 100-Hit Club as Softball splits doubleheader slugfest at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE — Senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) collected her 100th career base hit, leading the Ohio Northern softball team in a doubleheader split at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. ONU won the nightcap 14-7 after falling in the opener 14-13 in the first game.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (5-13 Overall), Ohio Wesleyan (5-9 Overall).

Game 1 - L, 13-14
- Ohio Wesleyan took a quick 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
- In the second inning, senior Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) singled up the middle to score two runs.
- OWU scored one run in the second inning and three more in the third inning to lead 10-1.
- Lenser hit a sacrifice fly and freshman Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich.) hit an RBI single in the third inning to make the score 9-4 in favor of the Battling Bishops.
- ONU scored four more runs in the fourth inning, including a 2-RBI double from freshman Jaylee Fansler (Plainfield, Ind./Avon).
- In the fifth inning, sophomore Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) tied the game up 10-10 with a 2-run homer.
- Freshman Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge) scored on a fielder's choice to give ONU their first lead of the game at 11-10.
- OWU scored three runs in the sixth inning to take back the lead.
- In the seventh inning, Hannahs hit an RBI double, then scored on a fielding error later in the inning to tie the game 13-13.
- The Battling Bishops hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 14-13.
- Senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville), Schroeder and Hannahs each had three hits to lead the Polar Bears.
- OWU out-hit ONU 18-17.
Game 2 - W, 14-7 (6 innings)
- The game was called with two outs in the 6th inning due to darkness.
- Ohio Wesleyan took another quick lead, scoring four runs in the first inning.
- Hannahs hit a 2-RBI single in the second inning to make the score 4-2.
- The Polar Bears scored four runs in the third inning to take a 6-4 lead.
- OWU also scored a run in the third inning to cut ONU's lead to one run.
- ONU scored four more runs in the fourth inning, including doubles from Hilty and Schroeder.
- The Battling Bishops responded with two runs in the fourth inning, making the score 10-7.
- In the fifth inning, ONU scored four more runs off an OWU error, RBI singles from freshman Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) and Hilty, and an RBI triple from junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta).
- Wilson and Hilty each had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Polar Bears.
- Freshman Avery Neth (Williamsburg) got the win in the circle.

- Ohio Northern is now 9-6-1 all-time against Ohio Wesleyan.
- Lenser became the 48th member of ONU's 100-Hit Club. She also ranks 4th all-time in ONU history with 274 career strikeouts.
- Rosser, Fansler and Hannahs lead the team in batting through 18 games this season with averages of .448, .371 and .366, respectively.
- Ohio Northern is in its 58th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 1,001-693-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .590.
- Head coach Summer Collins is in her first season at Ohio Northern.
