Softball drops doubleheader to Alma (Mich.)

ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a doubleheader against Alma on Tuesday afternoon at Durbin-Hileman Stadium. ONU fell 6-1 in the first game and 14-5 in game two.

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (4-12 overall), Alma (6-10 overall).
• Venue: Durbin-Hileman Stadium - Ada, Ohio.

Game 1 - L, 1-6

• Alma scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the third and one more run in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead.
• In the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) hit an RBI single to score senior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) to make it 4-1.
• The Scots scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
• Senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts for the Polar Bears.
• AC out-hit ONU 11-9.

Game 2 - L, 5-14 (5 innings)

• The game was called after 5 innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
• Alma took an 11-0 lead after two innings.
• Northern scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second inning.
• In the fourth inning, Rosser singled home freshman Melanie Amann (Columbus/Upper Arlington) to make the score 12-5.
• Alejandro went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Polar Bears.
• Alma out-hit ONU 17-8.

• Ohio Northern is now 14-22 all-time against Alma.
• Rosser had a 3-for-5 day with 3 RBIs to lead the Polar Bears.
• Lenser ranks 4th all-time in ONU history with 272 career strikeouts. She also has 97 career base hits.
• Rosser, Fansler, and freshman Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich) lead the team in batting through 16 games this season with averages of .449, .365 and .310, respectively.
