Softball drops doubleheader at No. 11 Trine (Ind.)

ANGOLA, Ind. — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a doubleheader at No. 11-ranked Trine (Ind.) on Wednesday afternoon. ONU fell 14-0 in the first game and 10-2 in the second game.

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (3-9 overall), #11 Trine (12-4 overall).

Game 1 - L, 0-14 (5 innings)

• The game was called after five innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
• Trine scored twice in the first inning and scored 10 more runs in the second inning to take an early 12-0 lead.
• Sophomore Taylor Keck (Wadsworth) had 3 strikeouts in 3.0 innings in the circle for the Polar Bears.
• TU out-hit ONU 13-0.

Game 2 - L, 2-10 (5 innings)

• The game was called after five innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
• In the top of the first inning, junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) hit a 2-RBI double to score seniors Ashley Lenser (Brookville) and Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville), making the score 2-0.
• Trine hit 3-run homers in each the first and third innings to go up 6-2.
• The Thunder scored three more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to make the score 10-2.
• Wilson went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs to lead the Polar Bears.
• TU out-hit ONU 10-4.

Notables

• Ohio Northern is now 8-14 all-time against Trine.
• Lenser ranks 4th all-time in ONU history with 267 career strikeouts. She also has 95 career base hits.
• Rosser, freshman Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge) and freshan Jaylee Fansler (Plainfield, Ind./Avon) lead the team in batting through 12 games this season with averages of .394, .385 and .353, respectively.
• Ohio Northern is in its 58th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 999-689-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .590.
• First-year head coach Summer Collins is now 3-9 at Ohio Northern.
