Softball wraps up spring break trip with win over St. Scholastica (Minn.), loss to Nichols (Mass.)

BARTOW, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up its spring break trip with a win over St. Scholastica (Minn.) and a loss to Nichols (Mass.) on Friday. ONU fell 10-9 to Nichols and topped St. Scholastica 13-6.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (3-7 overall), Nichols (8-2 overall), St. Scholastica (4-9 overall).
- Venue: Bartow Park - Bartow, Fla.
Game 1 - L, 9-10 v NC
- Nichols scored one run in the top of the first inning.
- In the bottom of the first inning, junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) hit an RBI double and sophomore Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) doubled to score three more runs, making the score 4-1.
- Senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) singled to center field to score freshman Jaylee Fansler (Plainfield, Ind./Avon) in the bottom of the second inning.
- The Bison scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up 7-5.
- Fansler singled to left field, scoring Schroeder to cut the lead to one run.
- Nichols scored three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-6 lead.
- A two-RBI double from Rosser and an RBI single from senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) in the bottom of the seventh inning would cut the lead back to one, but the Polar Bears could not complete the comeback.
- NC out-hit ONU 23-14.
Game 2 - W, 13-6 v St. Scholastica
- ONU scored one run in the top of the first on a fielder's choice.
- St. Scholastica scored a run in both the bottom of the first and second innings to make the score 2-1.
- In the top of the third inning, Lenser hit a three-RBI double, Wilson singled and two runners scored on a St. Scholastica error to make the score 7-2.
- The Saints scored a run in each the third and fourth innings.
- Rosser hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to make the score 8-4.
- Junior Kylie King (London/Jonathan Alder), Rosser and Lenser each hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.
- St. Scholastica scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, making the score 11-6.
- In the top of the sixth inning, freshman Maggie Arno (Williamsburg) hit an RBI single, then scored on a walk, making the score 13-6.
- Rosser and Lenser each had four RBIs while senior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) went 5-for-5 to lead the Polar Bears.
- ONU out-hit St. Scholastica 21-14.
Notables
- Rosser had a 6-for-9 day with seven RBIs and Lenser went 5-for-8 on the day with five RBIs to lead the Polar Bears.
- Lenser ranks 4th all-time in ONU history with 266 career strikeouts. She also has 94 career base hits.
- Rosser, freshman Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge) and Fansler lead the team in batting through 10 games this season with averages of .419, .417 and .375, respectively.
- Ohio Northern is in its 58th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 999-687-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .591.
- First-year head coach Summer Collins is now 3-7 at Ohio Northern.
