BARTOW, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team fell to Gettysburg (Pa.) and Wittenberg on the second day of its annual spring break trip on Monday. ONU fell 4-3 to GC and 10-5 to WU.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (1-3 overall), Gettysburg (Pa.) (6-2 overall), Wittenberg (3-1 overall).
- Venue: Bartow Park - Bartow, Fla.
Game 1 - L, 3-4 v GC
- Northern scored twice in the top of the third to grab a 2-0 lead.
- But the Bullets scored single runs in each of the next three innings to grab a 3-2 lead.
- ONU tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the sixth.
- GC then scored in the bottom of the sixth to grab a 4-3 lead.
- Freshman Jaylee Franzer (Plainfield, Ind./Avon) went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Polar Bears.
Game 2 - L, 5-10 v WU
- The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and led 5-0 after three innings.
- Northern scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game up 5-5.
- Senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) and senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) scored on an error by the Wittenberg third baseman.
- Freshman Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich.) then scored on another error by the third baseman, making the score 5-3.
- Sophomore Ashley Simko (Lebanon) stole home to cut Wittenberg's lead to just one run.
- Hannahs tied the game up when she scored on a wild pitch.
- The Tigers then answered with runs in each of the next three innings to seal the victory.
- Flory went 2-for-3 to lead the Polar Bears.
- WU out-hit ONU 15-7.
Notables
- Both games were pushed back from earlier in the day due to rain.
- Lenser has 86 career base hits. She also ranks sixth all-time in ONU history with 251 career strikeouts.
- Ohio Northern is in its 58th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 997-683-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .592.
- First-year head coach Summer Collins is now 1-3 at Ohio Northern.
