ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up Ohio Athletic Conference play on Senior Day with 4-1 and 5-4 losses to Heidelberg on a beautiful warm Saturday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 19-17 overall and 9-9 in the OAC, while the Student Princes improve to 17-21, 7-11.
Senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) blasted a solo home run to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
But HU would load the bases in the top of the seventh and score four runs on back-to-back, two-out singles to grab a 4-1 lead.
In the nightcap, senior Lauren Walls (Grove City) singled home sophomore Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) and senior Annika Murray (Hilliard/Bradley) in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Again the Student Princes would come up with the clutch hit, as Morgan Woycitzky would score from second base on an infield single in the top of the eighth with the eventual winning run.
Sophomore Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) went 4-for-6 in the two games to lead the Polar Bear offense.
Ohio Northern honored its four senior players: Allie Bican (Solon), Motylinski, Murray and Walls, and its senior student manager, Kaylee Ballou, in a pregame ceremony.
