ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern softball team fell 4-0 and 2-0 to Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at 23rd Street Softball Field on Thursday.
The Polar Bears fall to 19-15 overall and 9-7 in the OAC while the Purple Raiders improve to 29-7, 12-4.
Northern tallied a combined six hits in the two games, highlighted by a Game 2 double from senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.).
Grace Heath led UMU with a combined three hits in the two games.
The Purple Raiders got a dominant outing from Kendyll Cahill, as the OAC leader in ERA, wins and strikeouts pitched a pair of shutouts with 15 strikeouts and one walk to improve to 20-4 on the season.
Northern's two hits in Game 1 came on a first-inning single from senior Lauren Walls (Grove City) and a bunt single from Motylinski in the fifth.
ONU senior pitcher Allie Bican (Solon) gave Cahill a battle in Game 2, which was scoreless through five innings.
But the Raiders broke through in the bottom of the sixth, as RBI singles from Cahill and Alexis Temple provided the winning margin.
Neither of those runs were earned, as Bican finished with four strikeouts while giving up seven hits and no walks over six innings.
The Polar Bears return to action on Monday for a doubleheader at Wooster beginning at 3:30 p.m.
