As a mysterious new virus began to tear through the United States, Alicia Swierz was on a different kind of tear.
The Southeast alum was having the best year of her Ohio Northern University career. When the coronavirus pandemic put an abrupt end to her 2020 season, Swierz was hitting .387, with six doubles, seven runs and seven RBIs in nine games.
Most of her numbers were her best yet. Her on-base rate soared from .414 a year ago to .472. Her slugging rate rose from .377 in 2019 to .581 in 2020.
One number was particularly staggering. Her six doubles in nine games was more than she had in any prior season. (She played 42 games apiece the last two years.)
