ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team fell 1-0, 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in double header action as it competed at Rike Field in Westerville.
The Polar Bears fall to 17-7 overall and 3-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Cardinals improve to 21-4, 4-0.
In the first contest, senior Megan Hupp (Delaware/Olentangy), juniors Jenna Hollar (Lima/Bath) and Leanna Henry (West Jefferson) and sophomore Hailee Loughman (Brookville) all recorded hits for ONU.
After three scoreless innings in game one, Otterbein used a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Northern would threaten in the bottom of the sixth as Hupp and Loughman got on base with back-to-back singles, but Northern could not capitalize as OU went on to win 1-0.
Otterbein opened game two quickly as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Polar Bears were able to get runners on the bases in the top of the third and fourth innings, but could not plate the runners.
The Cardinals would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the 3-0 victories.
Northern returns to action Saturday, Apr. 8 as they travel to Alliance to take on Mount Union in a double header at 1 pm.
