CLERMONT, Fla. — Junior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) pitched and hit the Ohio Northern softball team to a 6-1 victory over Lebanon Valley (Pa.) at Sleepy Hollow Field No. 4 at the Spring Games during its annual Spring Break trip.
The Polar Bears (3-1) ended the day with a 4-1 loss to Wittenberg Monday night.
The Dutchmen fall to 1-2 and the Tigers improve to 2-0.
Lightel scattered five hits, struck out five and allowed just one run in the complete game victory in the circle and went 2-for-4 with a runs scored an an RBI at the plate for ONU in the win over LVC.
She singled and scored in a 5-run fifth inning in which Ohio Northern broke a 1-1 tie and took control of the game with a 6-1 lead.
Freshman Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./Saint Henry) was 3-for-3 with a walk at the plate as well.
Wittenberg scored three times in the top of the second to win the pitcher's duel Tuesday evening.
Sophomore Kaitlin Surdej (Lancaster/Central) had 12 strikeouts in a losing effort for Ohio Northern, which was able to muster just four base hits in the game.
The Polar Bears will play Wittenberg on Monday night at 6 pm in the fourth of 12 games during their annual Spring Break trip to Florida.
