ADA -- Juniors Jamie Westenkirchner and Adriana Sikora each drilled two home runs to lead Ohio Northern in a softball double header with No. 13-ranked Trine (Ind.) Thursday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The visiting Thunder (16-1 overall) won the opener 12-5 and took the nightcap 10-6 despite the five home runs from the Polar Bears (8-10).
Westenkirchner hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings and Sikora hit a solo home run in the third and a 2-run shot in the fifth for ONU.
Sikora led off the bottom of the first in Game 2 with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Westenkirchner.
Senior Carly McKenzie drilled a 2-run home run to left center in the bottom of the fourth frame to pull ONU within 7-3.
in the sixth frame, Northern scored three times to pull within 10-6. The 3-run rally was keyed by RBI singles from freshman Megan Hupp and sophomore Amanda Lahti.
The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday with an Ohio Athletic Conference double header with Mount Union at 1 pm at the ONU Softball Field.
