CLERMONT, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team saw its record drop to 4-4 after a 6-0 loss to DeSales (Pa.) and a 4-3 loss to Thiel (Pa.) on Wednesday at the Dot Richards Games.
Against DeSales, junior Kelly Sheridan would become the 35th member of ONU's 100-Hit Club with a 2-for-3 outing.
Northern would threaten to score in the fifth and sixth innings, but DeSales' D.J. McCauley would pitch out of the jam each time and would finish with a 5-hit shutout.
Against Thiel, senior Colleen Baliga went 3-for-3 with two RBI and sophomore Lindsay Simmons went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Polar Bear offense.
Baliga singled in a run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1, then had an RBI double in the top of the fourth to put ONU up 2-1.
The Tomcats scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 4-2, but Northern rallied in the top of the seventh.
Junior Adriana Sikora drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to pull ONU within 4-3, but the Polar Bear rally would go no further as TC's Allison Williams would notch the complete-game victory in the circle.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday with evening games with Illinois College at 5 pm and Northwestern (Minn.) at 7 pm.
