ADA -- The Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up its 2013 season with a double header split against Denison Monday at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears (13-15) won the nighcap 6-3 after the Big Red (23-15) won the opener 4-1.
The Polar Bears got on the board first in Game 2 when junior Christin Miller led off with a bunt single, stole second and scored on a 2-out single by freshman Amanda Lahti.
Jess Robertson tied the game for the Big Green with a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
Junior Carly McKenzie drilled a 2-out, 2-run double to deep right field, scoring Miller and Sujkowski, to put the Polar Bears up 3-1 in the fifth inning.
Senior Michelle Sweet then wrapped up her career with a bang, drilling a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in her last career at-bat.
Freshman Jessica Camper limited the Big Red to four hits and one run in 6.0 innings to earn the victory in her first collegiate start in the circle.
In the opener, Denison took a 3-0 lead after two innings and added an insurance run in the sixth to pick up the win.
Junior Bree Hiteshew scored on a double by senior Ashley Sujkowski to pull ONU within 3-1 in the third inning.
Senior Abbey Bensing (7-7) pitched well in a losing effort, striking out six in the complete game.
