COLUMBUS, Ga. — The No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up play in the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 7-6 victory over Mississippi College and an 11-4 loss to St. John Fisher (N.Y.) on Sunday.
The Polar Bears move to 1-5 on the season, while the Choctaws fall to 3-11 and the Cardinals improve to 4-6.
Against Mississippi College, Northern scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to post the victory.
The game was tied at 5-5 after regulation and the Choctaws scored once in the top of the eighth to go up 6-5.
Senior Abbey Bensing picked up the victory in the circle.
Northern scored once in the bottom of the first only to see MC score five times in the top of the third.
ONU answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the bottom of th fifth to tie the game.
Against SJFU, Northern scored twice in the top of the second and twice in the top of the fourth to go up 4-3.
But the Cardinals scored three times in the fifth and five more in the sixth to post the victory.
The Polar Bears will return to action March 21 with a non-conference double header against Alma (Mich.) at 3:30 pm at the ONU Softball Field.
