NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The No. 15 Ohio Northern softball team opened its 2011 campaign with a pair of losses on the opening day of the National Collegiate Sports Invitational Monday afternoon.
The contests was the first-ever games played at the brand-new Central Park Softball Complex and were the first under ONU head coach Kim Burke.
The Polar Bears (0-2) fell to Mary Washington (Va.) 1-0 in their opener and fell to York (Pa.) 9-0 in their second game.
UMW improves to 1-4 and York improves to 2-0.
Sophomore Ashley Sujkowski went 3 for 5 on the afternoon to lead the Polar Bear offense.
UMW scored the game's only run in the top of the seventh on a 1-out single up the middle by winning pitcher Julianne Sweat (1-0).
Sophomore Ashley Sujkowski went 2-for-3 to lead the ONU offense.
Junior Maggie Molnar (0-1) took loss despite allowing no earned runs and striking our four.
York sent 10 batters to the plate in a 5-run second inning take quick 5-0 lead and went on the the 5-inning victory.
Lauren Hurd (0-1) took the loss.
