COLUMBUS — Ohio Northern junior All-American Kimi Blewett drilled a grand slam in Game 1 and a 3-run home run in Game 2 to lead the Polar Bears to a 9-5, 12-6 Ohio Athletic Conference sweep at Capital on Saturday at Clawson Field.
ONU improves to 11-5 overall and is 2-0 in OAC action, while the Crusaders fall to 13-7, 1-3.
Both of Blewett's home runs came with Northern trailing and gave the Polar Bears the lead for good in each game.
In the opener, Blewett blasted a grand slam with one out in the top of the fifth frame to give the Polar Bears a 5-3 lead.
Northern scored twice more in the 6-run inning to go up 7-3 and held on for the victory.
Freshman Katy Newman (2-0) allowed just two runs in 4.1 innings of relief to earn the win on the mound.
Freshman Christin Miller, junior All-American Jackie Mangola and sophomore Ashley Sujkowski each added two hits for ONU.
Trailing 6-5 in the top of the seventh of Game 2, Blewett's 3-run home run keyed a 7-run frame as the Polar Bears again rallied for a win.
Sophomore Meghan Anten went 4 for 4, Miller was 3 for 5 and freshman Alia Brodie was 3 for 5 as the Polar Bears pounded out 20 hits in the night cap.
Sophomore Lauren Hurd (4-2) threw a complete-game 8-hitter.
Blewett finished the double header with 9 RBI, going 3 for 9 .
Miller was 5 for 10 with four runs scored and three other Polar Bears collected four hits on the day.
ONU will return to action Sunday at 1:30 pm at John Carroll.
