TIFFIN -- Sophomore Katie Cretin went 5 for 7 and drilled a 2-run home run to lift No. 5 Ohio Northern to a 6-2, 9-4 Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header sweep at Heidelberg Wednesday afternoon at Mayer Field.
The Polar Bears run their win streak to 22 games and improve to 25-1 overall and 8-0 in OAC play, while the Student Princes fall to 17-7, 4-4.
Sophomore Kimi Blewett gave ONU a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI double that scored sophomore Jackie Mangola to make it 1-0.
The Student Princes took a 2-1 lead on a 2-run double in the bottom of the frame, but Cretin's 2-run shot to left field in the top of the second gave ONU the lead back at 3-2.
In the top of the third, sophomore Cassie Gaye had a single up the middle to score Jackie Mangola and make it a 4-2 game.
Northern added to its lead in the top of the fourth on a pair of unearned runs to extendits lead to 6-2.
Sophomore pinch-runner Ericka Holcomb scored on a fielding error and senior Mandi Fought scored on a sacrifice fly by senior All-American Tina Mangola.
Senior Cortney Cash (13-1) struck out seven and earned the complete-game victory.
Jackie Mangola went 3 for 4 with two runs scored to lead ONU's 12-hit attack in the opener.
In Game 2, Northern took a 4-0 lead when Cretin led off the top of the third inning with a double and later scored on a ground ball by senior Mandi Fought.
Tina Mangola singled home Fought, who reached on an error, to make it 2-0 and Gaye doubled home Jackie Mangola and Tina Mangola to make it 4-0 Polar Bears.
HU pulled within 4-1 with a run in the home half of the fourth, but ONU quickly answered in the visitor's half of the fifth frame with three more runs.
Jackie Mangola led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on a RBI single by Blewett.
Two outs later, freshman Chrissy Rankin then laced a 2-run double to left to give ONU a 7-1 advantage.
Northern got a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Tina Mangola led off with a sharp single up the middle and later scored on a sacrifice fly by rankin.
A RBI double by Cretin scored Jackie Mangola to put ONU up 9-4.
Sophomore Maggie Molnar allowed three earned runs in 6.0 innings of work to pick up the victory and improve to 9-0 on the season.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at 1 pm with an OAC double header at Baldwin-Wallace.
