Ohio Northern national champion Emily Richards served as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams at her alma mater from 2020-24.
Richards assisted with cross country and coaches the middle distance runners in the track and field program.
She is in her sixth season under contract as a professional runner. In 2022, she was under contract with running apparel brand Tracksmith and coached by ONU track and field coach Jason Maus. Previously, from 2018-2021, she held a contract with shoe company Hoka One One and represented the Hoka New Jersey New York Track Club under Coach Frank Gagliano.
Richards was a nine-time NCAA Division III national champion and a 13-time All-American during her four seasons at ONU from 2015 to 2018. She won the 800-meter dash title five times and the 1,500-meter dash four times. She was also an All-American in the 800 and the 3,000-meter run in track and field and was an All-American in cross country, finishing ninth at the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
Richards was also a First Team Academic All-American and was ONU's female Clyde Lamb Award honoree in 2018.
She has qualified for seven USATF National Championships as well as the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 800-meter dash.
In 2022, she qualified for both the indoor and outdoor USATF Championships and made the outdoor semifinal in the 800 meters.
She graduated from Ohio Northern with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 2018.
