Vetrovsky wins javelin throw to lead Men’s Outdoor Track and Field on first day of Mike Becraft Invitational

ADA — Junior Tommy Vetrovsky (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) won the javelin throw to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team atop the team standings after competing in two events on the first day of the Mike Becraft Invitational on a cool, rainy Friday at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (12-4 overall) scored 24 points to sit in first place of six teams. Albion (Mich.) is second with 15 points, and Tiffin is third with 12 points.
Friday's portion of the two-day meet featured the javelin and hammer throw.
Vetrovsky won the javelin with a mark of 41.14 meters. He was the only Polar Bear to place in the top eight as a point-scorer in the event.
Northern had three scorers in the hammer throw.
Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) was third with a mark of 51.21 meters, junior Zach DeBord (Mount Vernon/Highland) was sixth at 46.92 meters, and Vetrovsky was eighth at 46.00 meters.
ONU assistant coach Jason Fisher competed in the hammer throw as a non-scoring participant, winning the event with a mark of 54.71 meters.
Also on Friday, sophomore Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) competed in the 200-meter dash at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State, running a time of :21.75. He placed 11th in the 28-man field, besting eight Division I competitors.
The third annual Mike Becraft Invitational concludes on Saturday.
