Meet Preview: The Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team travels to Berea on Thursday and Friday for the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace … On Thursday, the field events begin at 10 a.m., and the running events start at 3:10 p.m. … On Friday, the field events begin at 11 a.m., and the running events start at 3 p.m. … All 10 schools are expected to compete at the meet … The top 8 places will score points in the team standings (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1), and the top 3 finishers in each event will earn All-Conference honors … The Polar Bears scored 96 points and finished third in the 2021 OAC Championships, and Mount Union is the defending meet champion after scoring 246.5 points last season … Senior Andrew Buderer is the defending champion in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.63 meters last season … Senior Sam Krabacher was the champion in the 800 meters last season, winning the race in 1:55.98 … Also in 2021, fifth-year senior Travis Sutter (3,000-meter steeplechase), senior Nate Dean (100 meters) and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams earned All-OAC accolades with top-three finishes … The Polar Bears placed third behind Mount Union and John Carroll at the 2022 OAC Indoor Championships, where sophomore Keegan Digby won the conference title in the shot put and the team of sophomores Trey Myers, Tyler St. Onge and David Gross and freshman Ross Schlatter won the 4x400 relay … Other Polar Bears to earn All-OAC honors at the Indoor Championships included Buderer (pole vault), Myers (500 meters), Krabacher (800 meters), Nate Dean (60 meters), freshman Jordan Dean (400 meters and 200 meters) and junior Hunter Kesler (200 meters) as well as the 4x200 relay team of Jordan Dean, Nate Dean, Kesler and junior Ollie Jacobs, which placed second in a school-record time of 1:29.07 … The Polar Bears are coming off the two-day Ashland Alumni Open last Friday and Saturday, which was not team scored … ONU posted 10 top-10 finishes at the meet … The team of Kesler, Myers, Gross and Jordan Dean won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:16.69 … Digby placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.91 meters … Digby's throw of 16.34 meters in the shot put at the Mike Becraft Invitational on April 23 broke a 35-year-old school record, which was 15.74 meters set by Jim Shaw in 1987 … Digby's mark currently ranks seventh in the country … The top 20 individuals and top 16 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Championships scheduled for May 26-28 in Geneva, Ohio ... Only one team per relay event per school is eligible to qualify for nationals ... In addition to Digby's mark in the shot put, the Polar Bears have four other season-best performances that rank inside the top 50 in the country … Jordan Dean ranks 23rd in the 400 meters with a time of :48.45 and 46th in the 200 meters with a time of :21.72 … The team of Kesler, Myers, Gross and Jordan Dean ranks 21st (16th when counting one relay team per school) in the 4x400 with a time of 3:16.69 … Buderer ranks 40th in the pole vault with a height of 4.61 meters.
