OBERLIN — The Ohio Northern men's track and field program secured four individual event titles on the track and two more in the field Saturday, leading the Polar Bear efforts at the 2019 Bob Kahn Invitational hosted by Oberlin.
The meet was not scored for final team standings.
On the track, sophomores Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) and Colin McCullough (Galion) and freshmen Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) and Michael Mustari (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar) each won an event to guide ONU.
Krabacher led a 1-2 Ohio Northern finish in the 1,500-meter run after crossing the tape in 4:05.75, which established a new outdoor career-best mark for the sophomore. Classmate Alessandro Tramontano (Mayfield) trailed closely for a runner-up finish in 4:06.03.
McCullough and sophomore Donovin Moran (Saint John, Ind./Hanover Central) ended first and second in the 400-meter hurdles in :58.38 and 58.85, respectively. Moran's effort established a new top time for the 2019 season.
Dean continued his stellar freshman campaign with a victory in the 200-meter dash Saturday afternoon. His :22.03 clocking set a new career-best mark and crossed 0.70 seconds faster than Wooster's William McMichael who ended second.
Mustari picked up the remaining event victory on the track with a :15.19 performance in the 100-meter hurdles. He and sophomore teammate Owen Lloyd (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) took the top-two spots after the latter stopped the clocks at :15.33.
In the field, freshman Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) and sophomore Matt Bradshaw (Cleveland/Norton) each won an event title.
Shellhaas led a first-through-third sweep in the pole vault competition with a 4.48-meter (14' 8.25") clearance. Freshman Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) and sophomore Donald Gaylord II (Ashtabula/Lakeside) completed the sweep with second- and third-place clearances at 4.33 meters (14' 2.5") and 4.03 meters (13' 2.5"), respectively.
Bradshaw bested the discus field with a 46.58-meter (152' 10") toss, which ended just shy of a new career-best effort. The sophomore went on to post a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a 52.90-meter (173' 7") heave for a career-high mark.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday, April 13 with a trip to the All-Ohio Championships held at Ohio Wesleyan.
