ATLANTA, Ga. — Junior Andrew Shelton (Williamsville, N.Y./South), sophomores Jordan Green (Wooster) and Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin), and senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) claimed the 4x800-meter relay event title and senior Spencer Schulze (St. Henry) won the 10,000-meter run, leading the Ohio Northern men's track and field team on the first day of the Emory (Ga.) Classic at the Woodruff P.E. Center Track.
After day one, the Polar Bears sit second with 43 total points. Meanwhile, Tiffin leads the meet with 62 points.
Northern tallied eight top-eight finishes to record points on the competition's opening day, including six such efforts on the track.
The 4x800 relay squad bested a six-team field with an 8:03.79 clocking, finishing eight seconds faster than second-place finisher Emory.
Schulze led three scorers in the 10k event for Ohio Northern, winning the race in 32:18.84. Classmate John McNutt (Ashtabula/Lakeside) and junior Griffin Skaff (Canton, Mich./Salem) also placed, crossing the line in 33:11.54 and 34:03.58 to end fourth and eighth, respectively.

In the field, the Polar Bears claimed two additional top-eight finishes, including a third-place performance from sophomore Jack Lehr (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) in the 31-person javelin field. He launched the javelin a career-best 50.41 meters, nearly 3.5 meters farther than his previous top mark.
Classmate Matt Bradshaw (Cleveland/Norton) continued the throwing unit's success in the hammer throw, tossing the implement a career-high 51.40 meters to end fourth.
The Polar Bears will conclude the two-day meet tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. with the men's shot put, women's discus, and preliminary rounds in the sprint and hurdle disciplines at the Woodruff P.E. Center Track.
