McVey wins 3,000-meter run, Men's Track & Field places fourth at 2019 OAC Indoor Championships

ADA — Senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) cruised to victory in the 3,000-meter run to guide the Ohio Northern men's track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, concluding the two-day event inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
The Polar Bears ended fourth with 91.5 team points. Mount Union claimed their seventh consecutive OAC title with 180 total points whlie Otterbein and John Carroll trailed closely with 166 and 151 points, respectively.
One day removed from earning All-OAC honors in the 5,000-meter run, McVey raced to an event title in the 3k with a 8:33.94 clocking. The senior cruised across the tape 10 seconds faster than the remaining competitors.
Freshman Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) broke the Ohio Northern freshman class record in the 400 finals with a career-best :49.52 clocking. For the effort, he also earned his first career All-OAC accolade.
Junior Andrew Shelton (Williamsville, N.Y./South) and sophomore Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) also earned All-OAC honors, placing third in the 1000 in 2:36.82 and third in the 800 in 1:59.27, respectively.
The 4x400 relay team of sophomore Colin McCullough (Galion), junior Cody Benny (Wapakoneta), Krabacher, and sophomore Donovin Moran (Saint John, Ind./Hanover Central) placed third in 3:30.41 to round out the All-Conference award winners for the Polar Bears.
In the high jump, sophomore Owen Lloyd (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) tied for fifth, clearing 1.87 meters.
Junior Noah McKee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) placed sixth in the triple jump, bounding a career-best 12.62 meters.
Meanwhile, sophomore Matt Bradshaw (Cleveland/Norton) shattered his career-long in the shot put, heaving the 16-pound implement 15.23 meters to place seventh.
In addition, senior Spencer Schulze (St. Henry) posted a seventh-place mark in the 3,000-meter run. He finished in 8:53.19 to place during his lone event over the weekend.
Lloyd tied his 60 hurdles school record from Friday's preliminaries, finishing seventh in 8.52 seconds. McCullough was eighth in 8.74 seconds.
The grouping of junior Sean McGill (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar), Moran, McKee, and McCullough finished eighth in the 4x200 relay in 1:34.85.
Ohio Northern will return to competition Friday and Saturday for the Polar Bear Last Chance Invite inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
