Shellhaas and McVey earn All-OAC honors, Lloyd breaks 60-meter hurdles record as Men's Track and Field sits second following day one of 2019 OAC Championships

ADA — All-Ohio Athletic Conference performances by freshman Luke Shellhaas and senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) and a new 60-meter hurdles school record from sophomore Owen Lloyd (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) guided the Ohio Northern men's track and field team on day one of the two-day 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, held Friday inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
John Carroll currently leads the team standings with 42 points; the Polar Bears have 39 points for second; and Otterbein sits third with 35 points.
In the pole vault, Shellhaas placed second to earn his first career All-OAC honor, clearing 4.41 meters, while classmate Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) was fourth after vaulting over 4.21 meters. Sophomore Donald Gaylord II (Ashtabula/Lakeside) also scored for ONU, clearing a career-best 4.11 meters for sixth.
McVey was second in the 5,000 in 15:15.59 to receive All-OAC accolades. He is now a nine-time All-OAC honoree in track and field.
Lloyd reset his own 60 hurdles school record by .02 seconds in Friday's preliminaries, crossing in 8.52 seconds. He and sophomore Colin McCullough (Galion), who finished in a career-best 8.60 seconds, both advanced to the finals in the event with the seventh- and eighth-quickest qualifying marks, respectively.
The quartet of juniors Andrew Shelton (Williamsville, N.Y./South) and Cody Benny (Wapakoneta) and sophomores Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) and Jordan Green (Wooster) finished fourth in the distance medley relay in 10:39.78.
Sophomore Matt Bradshaw (Cleveland/Norton) took fifth in the weight throw with a 15.83-meter launch.
In the long jump, McCullough placed eighth via a career-long 6.38-meter leap.
Freshman Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) advanced to the 400 final in a career-best :50.19, the third-fastest qualifying time.
Northern will complete the 2019 OAC Championships on Saturday beginning with field events at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 2:10 p.m.
