Men's Swimming and Diving breaks school record in 400 free relay on final day of 2025 OAC Championships

AKRON — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team broke the school record in the 400-yard free relay to wrap up its second place finish after the fourth and final day of the 2025 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships meet on Saturday.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (5-3 overall).
- Venue: Ocasek Natatorium - Akron, Ohio.
- Ohio Northern was second out of 6 teams with 676 points in the 20 events over a four-day span.
- John Carroll won the team title with 933 points, Mount Union was third with 536 points, Baldwin Wallace was fourth with 397 points, Wilmington was fifth with 335 points and Heidelberg was sixth with 116 points.
Meet Highlights
- The 400 free relay team of junior Selby Wilt (Findlay), senior Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas), freshman Chase McCluskey (Pickerington/North) and junior Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder) was second in a school record 3:22, earning All-Conference honors.
- McCluskey also earned All-Conference honors in the 200 fly, finishing third in 1:53.41.
- Sophomore Nathan Herbert (Medina/Highland) was fourth in the 1650 free in 16:39.96.
- Junior Riley Verb (Bluffton) was seventh in the 200 back in 1:58.36.
- Wilt was fourth in the 100 free in :46.15 with Horgan finishing eighth in :46.80.
- Clark was fourth in the 200 breast in 2:05.56.
Notables
- The meet consisted of 20 events, including 13 individual races, five relays and two diving events.
- The top three individuals and top two relays in each event earned All-Conference honors.
- The Ohio Northern coaching staff was named the OAC Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.
- This marks the fourth time in the past five seasons that an ONU swimmer has earned All-OAC accolades in the 200 fly.
- Clark is now a three-time All-OAC honoree in the 100 breast after finishing second in 2023 and third last season.
- Clark and Wilt each finished the championships by earning All-OAC honors in five events - four relays one one individual each.
- McCluskey was a four-time All-OAC performer, Horgan was a three-time award winner and juniors Simon Bopple (Cleveland/Shaker Heights) and Tyler Edmonds (Youngsville, La./Southside) were each on relay teams that earned All-OAC kudos.
- Ohio Northern has won 12 OAC Championships titles since 2005.
- Austin Veltman is 36-20 in his seventh season as head coach of the Polar Bears.
