Men’s Swimming and Diving posts nine top-five finishes on final day of Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet to place second of four teams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team posted nine top-five finishes Saturday at the Venema Aquatic Center to close out the two-day Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet in second place of four teams.
The Polar Bears finished the meet with 711 points over 20 events. Calvin placed first with 1,862.5 points. Carthage (Wis.) was third with 596 points, and Albion (Mich.) was fourth with 586.5 points.
Senior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) led the way for ONU on Saturday, placing third in the 1650-yard free in 17:14.37 and fourth in the 400-yard IM in 4:21.83.
Cope was also part of ONU's fourth-place team in the 800-yard free relay, joining freshman Carter Detweiler (Newton, Pa./Council Rock), sophomore Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) and fifth-year senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) to finish in a time of 7:23.52.
Sophomore Holden Cubberley (Celina) finished second in the 3-meter diving competition, scoring 488.80 points over 11 dives.
ONU's 200-yard medley relay team of Stanley, Horgan and freshmen Selby Wilt (Findlay) and Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder) added a third-place finish, posting a time of 1:37.34.
Freshman Long Huynh (Billings, Mt./West) was third in the 200-yard fly in 2:00.76.
Clark was fourth in the 100-yard breast in 1:00.78, and Horgan placed fourth in the 100-yard free in :47.49.
Detweiler rounded out ONU's top-five finishes, placing fifth in the 200-yard free in 1:48.45.
The Polar Bears also scored seven sixth-place finishes.
Stanley was sixth in the 100-yard fly and the 200-yard fly with respective times of :53.14 and 2:04.02.
Horgan placed sixth in the 200-yard free in 1:48.71, and Wilt was sixth in the 100-yard free in :48.01.
Freshman Aiden Magoolaghan (Hinckley/Highland) was sixth in the 100-yard back in :55.82, and freshman Tyler Edmonds (Youngsville, La./Southside) was sixth in the 200-yard breast in 2:16.60.
Wilt, Detweiler, Horgan and junior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) finished sixth in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:18.24.
The Polar Bears return to action on Nov. 18-20 for the three-day Chicago (Ill.) Phoenix Fall Classic.
