INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ohio Northern freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) finished 18th of 24 divers in the 1-meter diving competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday afternoon at IUPUI Natatorium.
Cubberley finished his 11 dives with 413.80 points.
He was in seventh place after two dives and held eighth place after eight dives, but fell to 20th place after the ninth round.
Cubberley climbed back into 18th place heading into the final dive.
His final dive scored a solid 48.75 points, but he was not able to get back into the top 16, missing out on advancing to the Consolation Finals by 3.60 points.
"I know Holden is disappointed, but there were many bright moments today," ONU head coach Austin Veltman said. "He really nailed a couple of his dives and had just the one miss. This was a great learning experience for him and hopefully it will make him even more hungry next season."
The top eight finishers from the Trials advanced to the Finals on Friday night and earn All-America honors, while finishers 9-16 advanced to the Consolation Finals Friday afternoon and earn Honorable Mention All-America honors.
On Wednesday, Cubberley posted a final score of 395.75 points for 11 dives in the Trials portion of the 3-meter diving competition, placing him 19th in the field of 23.
Cubberley qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing ninth on the 1-meter board (421.90 points) and fifth on the 3-meter board (461.65 points) at the Region 1 Diving Championships on February 25-26.
The 2021-22 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Diver of the Year won both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions at the OAC Championships with 491.75 points and a school-record 500.75 points, respectively.
