Monday, May 24 - Team flies overnight from Cleveland to Milan, Italy
Tuesday, May 25 - Milan to Venice
The Polar Bears landed in Milan and immediately set out sightseeing, touring the city center. Sights seen included the Piazza del Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The squad then traveled to the Venice area, staying at the Hotel Americana in Jesolo.
Wednesday, May 26 - Sightseeing in Venice
The team took a ferry from its hotel in Jesolo for a full day of sightseeing in Venice. After a tour of the city in the morning, the players and staff enjoyed a gondola ride on the Grand Canal. After lunch, they we were able to explore the island city on their own, taking advantage of a beautiful afternoon on the Adriatic Sea.
Thursday, May 27 - Travel to Montecatini via Bologna
Thursday included a trip to the beautiful town of Bologna and a trip across Italy to the Tuscany region.
Friday, May 28 - Full day excursion to Florence
The tour of Italy included a full day in Florence, widely regarded as the center of the 14th century Renaissance and famous for its historic scientists and artists. Works from Leonardo Di Vinci and Michelangelo were just a few of the items seen during the day.
Saturday, May 29 - Game Day! Ohio Northern v Italian All-Stars in Pontremoli | Game Recap |
Saturday was game day for the Polar Bears. The team took a 2-hour bus ride to the small Tuscan town of Pontremoli for a game against an all-star team of Italian club teams. After a 63-6 victory by Ohio Northern, the team had a fun picnic with their gracious and friendly hosts.
Sunday, May 30 - Sightseeing in Rome
An early morning bus ride to Rome was on tab for Sunday morning. The 2,000-year old Colosseum, the Forum, the Pantheon and the Piazza Novona were among the famous sights taken in by the squad on a wonderful afternoon in Rome.
Monday, June 1 - The Vatacian.
A trip to Vatacan City, the center of Roman Catholicism and home of the pope, highlighted the seventh and final full day in Italy. Sites such as St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums were toured. They feature some of the world's most famous paintings and sculptures.
