Ohio Northern tops Italian All-Stars 63-6

PONTREMOLI, Italy — Kyle Simmons completed 7 of 7 passes for 98 yards a two scores and Brent Donley ran six times for 94 yards and 2 TDs as Ohio Northern defeated the Fedearazione Italiana Football All-Stars 63-6 in the Italian Classic Saturday afternoon in the sunny hills of Tuscany.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 in international exhibition games, as they trounced the Bavarian All-Stars 77-0 in 2007 in Furstenfeldbruck, Germany.
Northern rolled up 473 yards of total offense, including 318 on the ground in just 27 carries, and scored on all but one of its offensive possessions to dominate the overmatched Italians.
It took the Polar Bears just four plays and 48 seconds to take the lead, scoring on a 16-yard run by Donley to make it 6-0 ONU with 9:12 left in the opening period.
The teams played 10 minute quarters in the contest.
Nick Newman made the first of his nine extra points to put Northern up 7-0.
Michael Busch caught a 25-yard TD pass from Simmons to cap a 3-play, 48-yard drive on ONU’s next possession, making it 14-0 with only 2:43 gone in the contest.
Donley then scampered in from 35 yards out to cap a 3-play, 69-yard drive on Northern’s third possession and it was 21-0 with 5:00 left in the opening period.
On the next play from scrimmage, J.J. Mihoci intercepted a pass and returned it 29 yards for a score and a 28-0 ONU lead.
Josh Rouch scored from 7 yards out on the fourth play of the second period to make it a 35-0 game.
On Northern’s next possession, Simmons hit Kyle Baker on a 5-yard TD pass and it was 42-0 Polar Bears with 5:26 left in the half.
Marcus Bodamer wrapped up the first half scoring when he scooped up a fumble and rumbled in from 46 yards out with 31 seconds left in the period to put the Polar Bears ahead 49-0.
After a scoreless third period, the Italians got on the board with 6:26 left in the game when Adamsi hit Palmer on a 27-yard TD pass, capping a 14-play, 92-yard scoring drive.
Mihoci broke up the 2-point conversion pass to keep the score 49-6.
Carter Paul plowed in from 6 and 10 yards out in the final five minutes to wrap up the scoring.
oe Powell had five tackles to lead the Ohio Northern defense.
The Polar Bears spent eight days in Italy, seeing sights in Milan, Venice, Bologna, Florence, the Tuscany region and Rome.
