BEREA — The Ohio Northern baseball team was eliminated from the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-2 loss to Marietta on Saturday afternoon.

  • Trailing 2-0 in the top of the eighth, senior Logan Stevens (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) drew a bases loaded hit by pitch to score junior Sam Sells (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange).
  • Sophomore Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) followed with a sac fly to score sophomore Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Pioneers then got a 2-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the eighth to grab a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish.
  • Marietta scored single runs in the second and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead.

  • Sells and Truax were named to the All-OAC Tournament Team.
  • Northern was the No. 4 seed and Marietta was the No. 3 seed in the double-elimination tournament.
  • Sells, junior Joey Kennedy (Sterling Heights, Mich./Foley Catholic), and freshman Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) led the team in hitting in 41 games this season with averages of .357, .351 and .329, respectively.
  • Junior Andrew Stechschulte (Findlay) led the team with 50 hits.
  • Armstrong led the squad with 15 doubles, seven home runs, 44 RBI and a .561 slugging percentage. His 44 RBI is the fifth-most at ONU in a single-season.
  • Stevens is tied for 8th all-time at ONU with 19 career home runs and also has 144 base hits and 101 RBI in 144 career games.
  • Ohio Northern is now 24-91 all-time against Marietta, including a 4-22 mark in the OAC Tournament.
