AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern baseball team split a double header with Loras (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon in the penultimate day of its annual spring break trip.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (6-6 overall), Loras (11-4 overall)
- Venue: Lake Myrtle #4 - Auburndale, Fla.
Game 1 - W, 3-0
- Fifth-year senior Jack Hutchins (Bright, Ind./East Central) threw a 2-hit shutout to lead ONU to a 3-0 win in the opener.
- Junior Chase Armstrong (Sterling Heights, Mich./Foley Catholic) hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth frame for the Polar Bears.
- Junior Andrew Stechschulte (Findlay) broke a scoreless tie with a sac fly to score junior Sam Sells (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) with the game's first run.
- Ohio Northern out-hit the Duhawks 8-2.
Game 2 - L, 3-9
- Loras broke open a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth and four more in the sixth to salvage a split.
- Sophomore Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) was 2-for-3 to lead the ONU offense.
- Sells drove in two runs on a ground ball in the top of the first as freshman Kyle Callahan (Brunswick) scored from third and freshman Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) scored from second on the play to give ONU a 2-0 lead.
- Freshman Landon Sawyer (Walton, Ky./Ryle) scored on a ground ball from Callahan in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
- Loras out-hit ONU 12-6.
