DEFIANCE — Junior Logan Stevens (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) became the latest member of Ohio Northern's 100-Hit Club and helped the baseball team to an 11-4 non-conference victory at Defiance on Thursday at Rutter Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 26-11 overall and the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-30.
Stevens entered the day with 98 career base hits and went 2-for-5 in the contest, reaching the 100-hit plateau in his 98th career game with a single to right field in the top of the ninth inning.
Sophomore Blake Altaffer (Montpelier) threw 5.0 innings of shutout baseball striking out five and allowing only two base hits to earn the win and improve to a league-best 8-0 on the season.
Senior Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, and freshman Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored to lead ONU.
The Polar Bears scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth and two in each of the fifth and sixth innings to build an 8-0 lead.
Defiance halved the lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Ohio Northern put the game away with single runs in each of the final three innings.
ONU out-hit DC 12-5 in the contest.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday with an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Heidelberg.
