By Wes Mayberry
ADA — Ohio Northern juniors Tim Knapschaefer (Maria Stein/Marion Local) and Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) were named Ohio Athletic Conference Players of the Week for baseball for the week of March 21-27.
Knapschaefer was named OAC Pitcher of the Week, and Wenning was named OAC Hitter of the Week.
This marks the second such honor for Wenning in his career and first for Knapschaefer.
The Polar Bears went 3-2 in their five games last week, which they capped with a 3-2 victory at No. 1 Marietta.
Knapschaefer led the way in that win, pitching six shutout innings and allowing just six hits and one walk to go with five strikeouts against the top offense in the OAC that is averaging 9.6 runs per game.
Wenning paced the ONU offense in its five games last week with a .556 average to go with 10 hits, including four doubles, while striking out just three times in 18 at-bats. He finished the week with four RBIs and four runs scored.
Wenning had a team-high four hits, including a double, in Saturday's doubleheader at Marietta, and he currently leads the team in batting average (.385) and hits (20).
The Polar Bears return to action on Tuesday when they host Trine (Ind.) at Wander Field.
