ADA — Sophomore Logan Stevens (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) notched three hits, including a home run, and eight RBIs to power the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 20-8 win over Alma (Mich.) on Thursday at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 5-8 overall on the season, while the Scots fall to 3-14.
Stevens added a pair of singles to his home run, which was a three-run bomb over the right-field fence in the second inning that put ONU up 10-3.
Sophomore Dakota Durick (New Castle, Ind.) also had three hits, including one double, in the game, and junior Nate Webb (Bath, Ind./Union County) had a home run and a double.
Webb's homer was a solo shot to right field that gave ONU an 11-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Senior Chayten Overholt (Delphos/Lincolnview), junior Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) and freshman Hunter Kauser (Paulding/Exempted Village) added two hits apiece.
Webb and Wenning each had three RBIs.
In all, 11 Polar Bears tallied at least one hit in the game as ONU out-hit Alma by a 19-8 margin.
The Scots opened the scoring with an RBI double from Joshua Robinson and a two-run homer from Jacob Cornman in the top of the first inning, but the Polar Bears responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame and held the lead for the remainder of the game.
Junior Jack Hutchins (Bright, Ind./East Central) got the win on the mound for ONU after throwing 1.1 clean innings with one strikeout in a relief role.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday to open Ohio Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader at No. 1 Marietta beginning at 1 p.m.
