ADA — Junior Chayten Overholt (Van Wert/Lincolnview) tallied five hits, but Ohio Northern dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Mount Union by scores of 6-1 and 15-7 at Wander Field on Friday evening.
Overholt went 2-for-3 with a triple in the opener and followed that with a 3-for-5 effort in the nightcap to lead the Polar Bears (3-10, 2-7 OAC).
The Purple Raiders (9-3, 7-3 OAC) took advantage of four ONU errors in the first game, scoring single runs in six different innings, taking advantage of an 8.1-inning start by Thomas Gallant.
For the Polar Bears, senior Nate Bye (Thorntown, Ind./Western Boone) conceded three runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk over 6.0 frames, striking out four.
In Game 2, the Raiders jumped out to a 13-1 lead before a five-run Polar Bear inning in the sixth brought the game back within reach. Mount Union forced Ohio Northern to leave the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings to stifle the comeback effort.
Senior Will Davis (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson) joined Overholt with a three-hit game, finishing the night 3-for-4 with a double, walk and two RBIs.
Junior Corey McMann (Flower Mound, Texas/Liberty Christian), senior Krue Thwaits (Greenville/Milton Union) and senior Michael Rocco (Davenport, Fla./Zionsville [Ind.]) chipped in two hits apiece.
The Polar Bears and Raiders will wrap up their 4-game series with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Alliance.
