ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its 2021 schedule with a pair of losses to No. 15 Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the OAC, while the Pioneers improve to 6-0, 2-0.
MC won the opener 13-1 and took the nightcap 10-1.
Junior Andy Mills (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) went 4-for-7 with an RBI from his leadoff position to lead the Ohio Northern offense.
In Game 1, MC scored in five of the first six innings to build a 12-1 lead.
Sophomore Nate Webb (Liberty, Ind./Union County) drilled his first career home run to account for ONU's run.
MC scored three times in the third and fifth frames to take a 6-0 lead in game two.
Mills had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to score sophomore Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) to get ONU on the board.
Marietta would put the game away with single runs in each of the final four innings.
The Polar Bears and Pioneers will wrap up their four-game series with a double header on Sunday at Pioneer Park.
