WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped two contests at Otterbein on Wednesday afternoon, falling 5-4, 6-0 at Fishbaugh Field in an OAC twinbill.
The Polar Bears fall to 19-10 overall and 7-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 21-8, 9-3.
Senior Hayden Shenefield (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) led the Polar Bears offensively, going a combined 5-for-7 at the plate and adding two RBI.
In the first contest, the Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Northern would answer in the top half of the inning third inning as junior Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) plated senior Jordan Bostater (Bryan) with an RBI ground out to score Northern's first run of the game.
With junior Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) and senior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor) on base, the OAC's batting average leader and Shenefield lined a 2-RBI double to left field to knot the score at 4-4.
Otterbein would recapture the lead and go on to win the first contest 5-4 in the bottom the eighth.
OU took control of the second contest early on, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
The Ohio Northern offense would threaten in the top of the ninth inning as two runners got on base, but the Cardinal defense ended the contest with back-to-back K's to seal the 6-0 victory.
The Polar Bears will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as it welcomes nationally-ranked Marietta to Wander Field for a twinbill at 1 p.m.
