MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern baseball team wrapped up its 2017 season with close 2-1 and 4-2 losses at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Don Schaly Stadium.
The Polar Bears end their campaign 21-19 overall and 7-11 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers improve to 21-15, 14-4.
Northern has now posted four consecutive winning seasons.
In the opener, freshman Jack Shaller (Bowling Green) took the loss despite allowing only five hits and one earned run in a comple-game effort.
Junior Jason Burkett (Maumee) had an RBI single in the top of the sixth to tie it at 1-all.
But the Pioneers got an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to grab the win.
In the nightcap, junior Jordan Bostater (Bryan) had a 2-run single in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
But again Marietta regained the momentum, scoring single runs in the fifth and eighth innings and held on for the sweep.
Junior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor) went 3-for-4 at the plate for ONU in Game 2.
