BEREA — The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped two games at Fisher Field on Friday afternoon as ONU fell 6-2, 6-4 in a twinbill in Berea.
The Polar Bears fall to 15-16 overall and 4-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 18-12, 7-7.
Freshman Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) led Northern offensively as he went 1-for-4 in the second contest, including a 3-run home run.
Thomas had four RBI and a run scored in the second game.
Junior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor) and sophomore Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) each added two hits for ONU.
After BW took a 2-0 lead through the first two innings of the first contest, Northern would score two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
After junior Jason Burkett (Maumee) got on base on an error and senior Kyle Schlade (Hamilton/Talawanda) doubled, freshman Phil Buckingham (Wayne/Elmwood) would clear the bases with a 2-RBI single to plate Burkett and Schlade and knot the game at 2-2.
The Yellow Jackets would use a strong fifth inning to regain the lead as they plated three runs and opened a 5-2 lead.
BW would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the 6-2 game one victory.
Thomas got the Polar Bears off to a quick start in the second contest as he drilled a 3-RBI home run to right center and plated juniors Jordan Bostater (Bryan) and Kasberg to give ONU an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
BW would answer with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-3 lead after one inning.
Thomas would earn his fourth RBI of the contest as he hit an RBI ground out to second base and plated Kasberg to tie the contest at 4-4 in the top of the third inning.
Baldwin Wallace would break the tie in the bottom of the seventh innng as it scored to runs to take game two 6-4.
Freshman Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay) posted a game-high seven K's in the game two loss.
The Polar Bears return to the field tomorrow as they travel to OAC-foe Heidelberg to take on the Student Princes in a twinbill at 1 pm.
