ADA -- The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision against Denison in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-10 overall, while the Big Red improve to 11-3.
Juniors Jordan Bostater (Bryan), Dan Barna (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Jason Burkett (Maumee) all recorded hits in the contest.
Northern got on the board in the bottom of the second when Bostater singled and eventually scored on a two-out, bases loaded balk.
Sophomore Austin Frey (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) had a 1-hit shutout through four innings and retired eight consecutive batters at one point until the Big Red posted a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.
DU added a pair of runs in the sixth to go up 4-1.
A combined four runs in the top of the eighth and ninth would seal the victory for Denison.
The ONU picthing staff struck out a combined five batters on the afternoon.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday afternoon with a 4 pm contest at area-rival Defiance.
