ADA -- Senior Ben Glischinski tied his career-high with 10 strikeouts in game two as the Ohio Northern baseball team concluded the regular season with a double header sweep over league-leading Marietta Saturday afternoon at Wander Field on Senior Day.
The Polar Bears finish the regular season 21-16 overall and 9-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers drop to 24-15, 13-5.
Seniors Alex Crabtree, Ben Eckert, Ben Glischinski, Nick Eltzroth, Cody Meyer, Andy Lubonovic and Clay Small were honored after the game two victory for their many contributions to the Ohio Northern baseball program.
Northern was led offensively by Eltzroth as he went 3-for-8 in the two contests and added two RBI.
Lubonovic went a combined 2-for-7 in the two contests and added three runs for Northern.
After Marietta opened game one with a quick score in the top of the first inning, the Polar Bears were able to answer with a run of their own as Lubonovic scored on a passed ball.
Northern would take the advantage in the bottom of the third inning as sophomore Hayden Shenefield hit an RBI single to left field to score sophomore Dan Barna.
Northern would add one more run in the inning to take a 3-1 lead as Lubonovic capitalized on a passed ball from the Pioneer pitcher.
Northern would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as sophomore Brandon Kasberg hit an RBI double to center field to score freshman Luke Klinehoffer.
On the ensuing at bat Barna was able to reach on an error from the short stop and Small and Kasberg scored to push the lead to 6-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Small would hit an RBI double to center field to seal the game one victory and put Northern ahead 7-1.
MC was able to get two back in the top of the seventh inning but Northern proved to be to much as they went on to win game one 7-3.
Eckert earned the victory on the mound for the Polar Bears as he went seven innings and struck out four batters.
After a pitching dual developed in game two, Northern was able to open the game up in the bottom of the seventh inning as sophomore Jordan Bostater hit an RBI double to right field and plated Barna for the first run of the game.
Northern would add one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning after Small hit a double to right center field and scored freshman Austin Peterson.
Northern would add two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Eltzroth hit a two RBI single to right field and plated senior Cody Meyer and Lubonovic to seal the 4-0 victory.
Glischinski struck-out a career-high 10 batters in six innings of work on the mound for Northern.
